Ideas for a Better Gwinnett

Time for a Change in the Way we Do Business in Gwinnett

We need to elect a Commissioner who will bring a fresh perspective to County Government. Communication between the Board of Commissioners and the Citizens Of Gwinnett must improve. We need to look at things differently; better communications with the citizens, how to improve the way the commission inform the public on issues, better manage budgets and revenues. It is time for a fresh approach. I am that candidate who will make a difference. I have the experience, the education and background to improve these areas.

Hold the Line on Taxes

We were all surprised this past year by the tax increase. Revenues are down, the economy is in a slump and the County doesn’t have enough funds. Many tough decisions will need to be made to prevent further tax increases. I have the professional and business experience to know where to make cuts and work diligently to prevent further tax increases. A win for all of us would to be able to hold the line on further tax increases.

Intelligent and Managed Growth

Gwinnett County puts a lot of time and energy in preparing a long term land use plan. As county residences we should be able to rely on these plans in our decisions on where to live. The land use plan gets ignored too often as residential land is rezoned into Commercial land. While there are times when a deviation from the plan does makes sense, one should have a very strong argument for rezoning property when it is different from the land use plan. I will work with the citizens and the planning department to insure everyone is treated fairly on zoning issues.

Better Transportation – Relieve Bottle Neck Areas

We need to review and expand the major roads we have now before we start widening neighborhood roads. There are too many bottlenecks in Gwinnett. We need better intelligent signaling systems to improve traffic flow. I will work to add lanes where needed. I believe GA 20, an existing road, can better serve as our east-west route than can a new road built on the Northern Arc right of way. Public transportation should play a bigger role in Gwinnett as well. The vast majority of Gwinnettians work in Gwinnett yet public transportation is geared to getting them to and from Atlanta. We need to look at how we can better move people within Gwinnett.

Public Involvement

The Hamilton Mill Homeowner Coalition has been effective in regulating and improving development in my area of the county. I want to build on that success by helping other homeowner groups expand so they have a greater voice in County Government. I will help foster and grow local homeowner coalitions and meet with them so their voice can be heard. I plan on holding regular open public meetings throughout the district so that I may hear your concerns and troubles as well. These will become the issues that I will champion in the Fourth District.
